CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

PRINCE KELLAN

I CURSE THAT FUCKING DRACONIAN for interrupting me at such an intimate moment. I have never seen Meira hone in on me with such desire, and my blood heated with her lingering view over my body. I want nothing but to return to her luscious curves, but I must deal with this greedy fucker. The Draconians are known to drag out negotiations until they get what they want. I pause at the door of the audience room to contain my frustration, then enter to greet my guest.

The reptilian splice stands as I stride forth. “Ah. Prince Kellan. Finally, you have arrived.” He takes a low bow with his hands behind his back, in his species manner.

“Apologies, Cadmius,” I say diplomatically. He waits while I sit down, then sits opposite me. His scaly tail lies beside his large form on the couch. “I was detained on an urgent matter,” I explain with a smile. “Now, you have my undivided attention.”

“I was informed that King Arik was unavailable for this appointment,” he states with annoyance. “Is there something I should know about?” His orange eyes narrow at me.

“Unfortunately, the king is on official business that could not be delayed. He has discussed your queen’s proposition with me, and he entrusts me with his answer,” I tell him with confidence. An attendant uses this gap in our conversation to offer glasses of berran wine. I gratefully take a tall, stemmed glass, knowing this will be a painfully lengthy meeting, and savor the light, fruity bubbles dancing on my tongue.

“Ah. My favorite beverage of your planet,” Cadmius says with a satisfied smile. “So, Prince Kellan. How is palace life?”

My brain is bored to death already. “Everything is as it should be,” I tell him. Purposefully keeping the devastation of our mission from him. It would not be wise for anyone to know that a majority of our space military personnel has perished. The attendant approaches me with the bottle of wine, and I hold out my near-empty glass for a refill. Bless the male; he knows how these meetings run.

Cadmius continues to stoke my boredom with his personal life and his long journey to Elaria. His ancestors originated from our planet as part of the Falconian’s experimentation to find a viable continuation of their species. The Draconians are a mixed splice of different reptilia species found on Elaria. His reptilian orange eyes blink at me with curiosity, and his olive skin tone compliments his straight black hair. Worn to his shoulders, it frames his strong, masculine face. I can assume he would be attractive to one of his kind. His warrior’s body, complete with membrane wings, is dressed in formal dark brown pants, an open-chested white shirt, and leather strappings that would normally hold weapons. The lack of them is a show of respect.

He does not appear overly weary from such a long journey from the other side of the galaxy. Although, the way he drones on about it makes me believe he is searching for an invitation to stay at the palace tonight.
